We never find that something to slows us down, it always seems to find us first...
The funny thing about perspective is when you do not have it, you yearn for it. When it hits you like a pile of bricks it brings you to your knees. It washes over you and things that do not matter melt away. It is in these moments we are present. It is in these moments we feel our deepest. The world around us stops immediately. All that matters comes into focus, a clear focus like when you adjust a camera. Washed with gratitude for this perspective, but the pain continues to numb your entire body. You can not process what has just happened. Yet perspective is unblemished.
Why does it take horrible & painful moments to give true perspective? To ground us in the present. What can we hold onto so we never lose this perspective again? How can we make sure it does not fade into the next busy moment, stressful day, or overwhelming situation?
If I could explain this and capture it for myself, I would start by saying all the shit & stuff is irrelevant. We are all flesh, body, soul and being. We are equals. Nothing matters but being present in EVERY SINGLE MOMENT. We do not have to be happy, but we do have to be GRATEFUL. Even the moments that feel hard like a really dark day, a long & stressful work call, a nasty commute, having a tough conversation, being upset, angry & speechless, the uncertainty of your next step, a really tough day, a loss or illness, . If we could engage in all of these moments being perfectly genuine, meeting ourselves exactly where we are & allow ourselves to be exactly who we are in every sense. To just be. Present, engaged, grateful, focused, clear, and ready for that moment, all of that moment, the good the bad, the uncomfortable, the opportunity. That minute, that hour, that day, that month & that year. What a shift in our perspective. Suddenly, the difficult becomes a little lighter, a more bearable.
This world is loud, unpredictable, busy, and beautiful its all consuming, it feels overwhelming at times. Searching for something to slow us down. We never find that something to slows us down it always seems to find us first. Bringing us to our knees. Making us realize what is profoundly important in ONE SPLIT SECOND.
