"In my eyes, my Grandma is quite possibly the most special woman I have ever met; and now every generation to come will know it too!"
"Jocelyn and I walked the same hallways as grade nines, and even went on to attend the same university. I followed Jocelyn's career closely through social media, but it wasn't until I moved to Australia in 2015 that I reached out to her regarding a digital legacy for my Grandmother, Olive Fair. Jocelyn was quick with the reply, and although she lived in British Columbia at the time, and myself in Australia; the process of filming my grandma's legacy in Waterloo, Ontario was quite seamless.
I called my Grandma with the news and she was quite overjoyed by the idea of having a tangible record of her life for generations to come. Jocelyn and Olive chatted on the phone and she reviewed what the day would look like, and some of the content they would be talking about (I gave some themes ahead of time). It was such a relief to have the video shot right in my Grandma's retirement home suite at Beachwood Manor; it truly made the day so authentic.
The day of, as my Grandma got ready, I quote; "[she] felt like a celebrity". The cameras were then set up and - action! Grandma Olive and Jocelyn sat in her suite and chatted as if they were old friends, reminiscing about life. It's a day my Grandma wont soon forget; and now, neither will any of us.
Jocelyn was quick with the editing and we received the final cut soon after that. I watched it over and over, and still being on the other side of the world, it made me feel like I was right there with her. My heart was full; the way that my Grandmother's story was captured was absolutely beautiful in every way possible.
I knew the anticipation was growing within my family, but I waited until Christmas that year for everyone to watch the legacy video for the first time. It was more than we could have ever imagined, and the joy that it brought our entire family is something I will cherish forever. The whole family was moved beyond words.
In my eyes, my Grandma Olive is quite possibly the most special woman I have ever met; and now with her digital legacy, every generation to come will know it too.
Since the day of the video, my Grandma always asks about Jocelyn; it's like they truly are old friends.
Thank you Jocelyn, my family and I are so grateful to have a permanent piece of my grandmother's beautiful life.
Love Melissa”
